The verdict

The Lezyne Macro Drive 1400+ is a compact 1,400-lumen front light that BikeRadar credits with good run times and a beam that lights the road directly ahead while keeping decent peripheral coverage. BikeRadar lists a claimed three-hour run time at peak output from a 5200mAh battery, an IPX7 rating and USB-C charging, with the light fixed to an integrated rubber strap mount. Its race mode cuts the seven modes down to two constant levels, which BikeRadar found more convenient on the road at night. The same review notes that no USB-C cable is supplied and that the light is not as function-rich as some competitors.

Output and beam

BikeRadar describes the Macro Drive 1400+ as providing a good peak level of output and a long run time for a reasonably compact unit. The beam has a fairly focused central spot with decent peripheral coverage, and deep side windows in the lens add visibility for urban riding. The review says the road directly ahead is well illuminated while the peripheral light drops off gently.

Run time and modes

Lezyne claims three hours at peak output from the 5200mAh battery. In BikeRadar's testing the light ran at full output for rides longer than an hour without the red battery indicator coming on. The day flash is claimed to last 100 hours at 700 lumens and the 20-lumen Femto flash 300 hours.

In normal use the rider cycles through all seven modes. BikeRadar preferred race mode on the road at night, where the light offers only two constant levels, so a flashing or very dim mode cannot be selected by accident. There is no remote, so changing modes still means reaching for the button on top of the light.

Build, mount and charging

The body has heat sinks down its sides and a single translucent top button that doubles as a battery indicator. BikeRadar reports an IPX7 rating and a USB-C charge port behind a rubber bung bolted to the rear of the light. Lezyne quotes charge times of three to six hours depending on the power source, and does not include a cable.

The light is attached semi-permanently to its rubber strap mount and can rotate on it. BikeRadar found it fixes securely to round and flat-topped aero handlebars, with a little flex between mount and light, and that fitting it requires considerable force to stretch the strap.

Strengths

  • +Claimed three-hour run time at the full 1,400 lumens, per BikeRadar
  • +Focused central beam with decent peripheral coverage
  • +IPX7 rated with a robust build
  • +Race mode limits the light to two constant output levels

Watch-outs

  • −BikeRadar found it not as function-rich as some competitors
  • −No USB-C charging cable is supplied
  • −Stretching the integrated rubber strap takes considerable force
