The verdict

TechGearLab named this cordless Wahl its top choice for a quick charge in a six-clipper test, recording a 15-minute charge time and a 2-hour battery life. It had no trouble on long, thick hair and lets the user adjust blade height with a thumb control. The review found it cut thinner hair less well, called the body slick enough to drop, and measured it as the loudest of the cordless models at 60.6 decibels.

The quick-charge pick in TechGearLab's test

TechGearLab bought six dog clippers at retail and tested them side by side on different fur types. It named the Wahl Lithium Ion Pro Series its top choice for a quick charge, calling it the fastest charging of all the clippers tested and a good fit for owners who groom numerous dogs or have only a short window to finish.

In the battery comparison TechGearLab credits it with a 15-minute charge time and a 2-hour battery life, ten times faster to charge than the runner-up oneisall. Wahl's own listing describes the 15 minutes as a quick charge and gives 3 to 5 hours for a full one, so the manufacturer's figure is the cautious one to plan around.

Cutting and handling

TechGearLab had no issues when testing the clipper on long, thick hair, and notes that blade height can be adjusted on the fly with a control at the thumb. Its reasons to avoid include that the clipper does not cut as well on thinner hair.

The review says the clipper feels good to hold, has grooves that help with grip, and is sturdier than most other cordless models. It also says the slick material makes it easy to drop when maneuvering around the dog.

Noise and maintenance

TechGearLab measured 60.6 decibels and warns owners of sound-sensitive dogs that this was the highest noise level among the cordless models it tested, though the vibration did not match.

Like the other Wahl clippers in the test, it comes with a warning about maintenance and an urge not to remove the blade. TechGearLab lists 'not recommended to do at-home maintenance' as a reason to avoid it.
