The verdict

TechGearLab bought six dog clippers for side-by-side testing and named this corded Andis its pick for the prosumer, saying it topped the group for overall quality and cut through every fur type it tried. It measured the clipper at 63.2 decibels. The same review calls it expensive, notes there is no blade height control on the clipper itself, and found the kit shipped without scissors, a comb or a blade brush.

TechGearLab's pick for frequent home groomers

TechGearLab bought six dog clippers at retail and ran them through grooming sessions on different fur types, weighting cutting effectiveness most heavily. It gave the Andis EasyClip Pro-Animal its Best for The Prosumer award and wrote that it topped the list for overall quality. Reviewer Kyle McCann recommends it to the owner who regularly cuts different fur types and lengths.

In the cutting tests TechGearLab found the Andis handled long, thick hair with occasional mats as well as short, thinner hair, and listed 'cuts like butter through all types of fur' among its reasons to buy. It named the Andis, the oneisall and the Wahl Pet-Pro as the three clippers that performed exceptionally well for cutting.

Grip, cord and cleaning

TechGearLab says the clipper fits well in the hand, that its grippy covering helps keep control of a reluctant dog, and that the cord has the right length and flexibility for moving around the animal. It also describes the Andis as larger and heavier, and judged the speed and cutting effectiveness a clear pro that outweighed those cons.

For cleaning, TechGearLab found both the head and the blade remove easily, which it calls essential for clearing hair from behind the blade. Andis's listing gives a 12-foot cord, a single-speed motor and four attachment combs from 1/8 to 1/2 inch.

What TechGearLab marked down

Price is the first objection: TechGearLab lists 'expensive' as a reason to avoid it. At that price the reviewer was also disappointed that the clipper has no blade height control, although the attachment combs cover the gap.

The kit TechGearLab opened fit neatly in its case but had no scissors, comb or blade brush. The review measured 63.2 decibels and warns that buyers who want a silent, still clipper may want a different model.

Strengths

  • +TechGearLab says it excels on long, thick hair with occasional mats as well as short, thin hair
  • +Grippy body texture and a long, flexible cord, per TechGearLab
  • +Blade removes easily for cleaning, per TechGearLab
  • +TechGearLab measured 63.2 decibels, under the 65 dB ceiling it prefers

Watch-outs

  • −No blade height control on the clipper; length changes rely on the attachment combs
  • −TechGearLab's kit came without scissors, a comb or a blade brush
  • −TechGearLab describes it as larger and heavier, which tires the clipping hand sooner

How it compares

TechGearLab measured the Andis at 63.2 decibels, quieter than the corded Wahl Pet-Pro Grooming Kit at 73.8 decibels and slightly louder than the cordless oneisall Dog Clipper Model X2 at 61.5. It is the most expensive clipper on this page. TechGearLab grouped it with the oneisall and the Wahl Pet-Pro as the three that performed exceptionally well for cutting, and scored it highest for its battery and power metric.
