The Hisense U8QG is a 2025 mini-LED TV built around brightness. PCMag measured 3,200 nits on an 18% window and gave it an Editors' Choice; CNET calls it the brightest TV its reviewer has formally reviewed; RTINGS, which bought the 65-inch model, rates it great for mixed usage. The trade-offs the testers agree on are a mediocre viewing angle and HDR tone mapping that runs bright, and PCMag found only three HDMI ports.

Strengths
  • — PCMag measured 3,200 nits on an 18% field and 845 nits full-screen in HDR
  • — Very deep blacks with minimal blooming, per RTINGS
  • — Low input lag: 10.1ms at 4K60 and 4.3ms at 1080p120 in PCMag's tests
Watch-outs
  • — Viewing angle is only okay, per RTINGS
  • — HDR content looks brighter than intended due to sub-par PQ EOTF tracking, per RTINGS
  • — PCMag counted only three HDMI ports on the 65-inch model

TCL's 2025 mid-range QD-mini-LED is the price-performance king of this guide. Measured peak HDR brightness lands in the same neighborhood as premium mini-LEDs at well under half the price, helped by a meaningfully upgraded local dimming optical stack, and the Onkyo-tuned audio punches above its weight. You give up viewing angles to the VA panel, and the Google TV firmware still has rough edges.

Strengths
  • — Peak HDR brightness around 2,600 nits on the 65-inch model — within striking distance of premium mini-LEDs costing three times as much
  • — 144Hz native refresh, ALLM and VRR, Game Accelerator 288 mode — strong gaming feature set at the price
  • — Anti-reflective screen coating handles bright living-room ambient light better than the Hisense U7N
Watch-outs
  • — Only 2 of 4 HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1 — trails the LG OLED G4 and Samsung QN65S90D

How they stack up

Hisense U8QG 65-inch Mini-LED (65U8QG)

PCMag measured it at 3,200 nits on an 18% field against 2,092 nits for the TCL QM7K, so it is the brighter of the two mini-LED sets on this page. Unlike the LG OLED evo G4 and Samsung S90D OLEDs, it is an LCD with a mini-LED backlight, and RTINGS and CNET both note some blooming and off-axis color loss that OLEDs avoid.

TCL 65QM7K QD-Mini-LED 65-inch

The TCL 65QM7K QD-Mini-LED 65-inch costs less than the LG OLED evo G4 65-inch and the Samsung S90D 65-inch, and its roughly 2,600-nit peak is about twice the Samsung's roughly 1,300 nits, which suits bright rooms. It has two HDMI 2.1 ports where both OLEDs have four. Unlike the TCL 43Q651G, it has local dimming, and it runs at 144 Hz against that set's 60 Hz.
