The verdict

The SLK Halo Pro XL is a 16.4 x 7.4-inch thermoformed paddle with a 14mm polymer core, a carbon fibre and Kevlar face and a 5.75-inch handle. Business Insider named it its best overall pickleball paddle after four months of court sessions with a group of players, praising its balance of power and control and its vibration-damping foam perimeter. Kip of the Famous by Friday Pickleball YouTube channel found it a touch above average across power, control and spin, with its quickest work at the net and a soft, cushioned feel. It suits beginners and versatile players who want one paddle for every part of the court; players who want a specialist power or control paddle should look elsewhere.

A hybrid paddle that is strongest at the kitchen line

Business Insider calls the Halo Pro XL a true hybrid for both power and control, and its reviewer described it as her favourite of the paddles tested: heavy enough to feel stable, but not so heavy that getting the ball over the net became work. The publication rates it as sophisticated enough for advanced play yet forgiving enough to give novices confidence, which is why it took the best overall slot. Famous by Friday Pickleball reached a similar verdict in more measured terms, recording a serve speed in line with the reviewer's normal range and describing accuracy, control, consistency and spin as good rather than great. Where the paddle stood out for him was at the net, where its head-light balance made it very quick to move.

Thermoformed carbon and Kevlar with a foam-lined edge

The face is a blend of carbon fibre and Kevlar that Business Insider describes as stiff, durable, textured and good for spin, laid over a Rev-Power polymer core and thermoformed for a more consistent face. A FlexFoam perimeter is there to damp vibration; Business Insider says it makes even a smash feel smooth, and Famous by Friday found the paddle soft and almost cushioned for a 14mm build, unlike the harsher feel of other Gen 2 thermoformed paddles. The 5.75-inch handle leaves room for two-handed backhands. Business Insider's one build complaint is cosmetic but real: the white grip shows wear and tear quickly.

Soft feel and a light stock weight are the trade-offs

Famous by Friday flagged two traits that cut both ways. The soft face brings a lot of dwell time, which the reviewer liked but which some players will not. The paddle also ships at around 7.7 ounces, and he added lead tape to bring it to 8.3 ounces for his own play, noting that the light stock weight leaves room to customise the balance. Business Insider lists the weight range as 7.7 to 8.2 ounces, a midweight, standard-thickness spec. Its other caveat is that this is not a specialised paddle: players who discover they are all about power or finesse may eventually want something more focused.

Mid-tier price for a versatile first serious paddle

Both reviews put the price at $150, which Business Insider describes as a mid-tier price point and lists as not cheap among its drawbacks. Even so, it counted great value among the paddle's strengths, and Famous by Friday called it the best SLK paddle Selkirk has made and pretty sweet at that price. Business Insider also notes a limited one-year warranty and a Max shape option for players who want a wider face. For a beginner or intermediate player who wants one paddle that covers every part of the court, both sources make a clear case; anyone already committed to a power or control style has more specialised options.

Strengths

  • +Hybrid design balances power and control for all-court play (Business Insider)
  • +Carbon fibre and Kevlar face is stiff, textured and generates good spin
  • +FlexFoam perimeter dampens vibration, so hard hits feel smooth
  • +Head-light balance makes it quick in hand-speed exchanges at the net
  • +Soft, cushioned feedback despite the 14mm core

Watch-outs

  • −An all-rounder that does nothing exceptionally well
  • −White grip shows wear and tear quickly
  • −Soft face and long dwell time will not suit every player

How it compares

At $150, the Halo Pro XL sits at the top of this category's price ceiling. Its 14mm polymer core is thinner than the 16mm core of the Vatic Pro Saga Flash 16mm, and it uses a polymer honeycomb core rather than the full-foam construction of the GRUVN LAZR 16X Full Foam Power.

#1 · Top Pick

Onix Hype X Pro Raw Carbon Pickleball Paddle

The Hype X Pro uses a 14mm polypropylene honeycomb core, thinner than the 16mm Vatic Pro Saga Flash and different from the full-foam core of the GRUVN LAZR 16X Full Foam Power. Like the Vatic Pro V-Sol Pro Series it pairs a carbon fibre face with a honeycomb core, and its elongated 16.5 x 7.5-inch face and 5.5-inch handle favour reach and two-handed backhands.

Diadem Icon Infinity Pro Pickleball Paddle
#2

Diadem Icon Infinity Pro Pickleball Paddle

The Icon Infinity Pro pairs its honeycomb core with EVA and eTPU foams, a different construction from the full-foam GRUVN LAZR 16X Full Foam Power and the Ronbus Quanta R3. At $139.95 it sits near the top of this price band, above the Vatic Pro V-Sol Pro Series, and its 13.7mm overall thickness is slimmer than the 16mm Vatic Pro Saga Flash.

Vatic Pro V-Sol Pro Series
#4

Vatic Pro V-Sol Pro Series

The Vatic Pro V-Sol Pro Series pairs an EPP foam core with a raw carbon fiber face in a hybrid shape, where the GRUVN LAZR 16X Full Foam Power and the Ronbus Quanta R3 are elongated foam-core paddles. The Vatic Pro Saga Flash 16mm is also a hybrid shape but uses a polymer honeycomb core. The V-Sol's sweet spot is not very large and can cause vibration on mishits, while the GRUVN is described as forgiving.
