The OXO Good Grips 11-pound scale has a display that slides out from under the platform so a large bowl cannot hide the reading. Tom's Guide measured the pull-out at about 3.5 inches and called the scale thoughtfully designed, with a removable platform and a maximum-load indicator, while noting it 'won't win on precision'. Bayev's Kitchen bought one and found the same weakness: it does not distinguish weights below 1.5 to 2 grams, though readings from 50 grams up were accurate. Both reviewers flagged the price.

Pull-out display and platform
Tom's Guide describes the extendable display as the reason to choose this scale: once pulled out it sits about 3.5 inches from the platform and is set at a slight angle, so a wide bowl or pot does not cover the numbers. The platform measures 7 by 7 inches and sits slightly raised on a black plastic base.
Bayev's Kitchen agreed the pull-out display is convenient but called it 'somewhat overrated', reporting that no spot in the reviewer's kitchen blocked the screen badly enough to need it. That review rated the removable platform as the more useful feature, because it can be rinsed, soaked or put in the dishwasher.
Accuracy with calibration weights
Small weights are the weak point in both reviews. Tom's Guide found a 2 g calibration weight read correctly but a 5 g weight read 6 g, and a 171 g stack of weights read 172 g in the centre of the platform and 171 g at the edge. Bayev's Kitchen reported that the scale does not differentiate weights below 1.5 to 2 g, and gave the example of a coffee dose jumping from 11 g to 13 g after a few beans were added.
From 50 g upward Bayev's Kitchen's unit 'performed excellently'. The same review measured the overload error at 5,096 g and tared a 4.2 kg mixer bowl of water without an error. Both reviews describe the response as quick; Bayev's Kitchen put it at under half a second.
Controls, battery and standby
Two buttons handle power and tare, and units. Tom's Guide found them intuitive. Bayev's Kitchen was less happy: the buttons respond only when pressed in the centre, and their look was judged cheap next to the stainless top.
The scale takes four AAA batteries, which are included. According to Tom's Guide the display dims after five minutes while keeping the reading, and the scale shuts off after 15 minutes. Bayev's Kitchen notes the backlight cannot be turned off and expects batteries to need changing every three to four months.
Price
Price is the main objection in both reviews. Tom's Guide lists 'Expensive' as its only reason to avoid and notes cheaper scales it tested. Bayev's Kitchen wrote that the scale is 'an excellent scale, but the pricing appears to be an issue' and said its overall assessment would have been higher at a lower price.
Strengths
- +Display pulls out about 3.5 inches so large bowls and pots do not block the reading (Tom's Guide)
- +Platform detaches for cleaning (Tom's Guide, Bayev's Kitchen)
- +Display dims after five minutes but holds the reading for 15 minutes before auto shut-off (Tom's Guide)
- +Tared a 4.2 kg mixer bowl of water without an error in Bayev's Kitchen's test
Watch-outs
- −Does not distinguish weights below 1.5 to 2 g and has a margin of error up to 5 g of load (Bayev's Kitchen); a 5 g calibration weight read 6 g for Tom's Guide
- −Expensive for a kitchen scale; Bayev's Kitchen called it 'evidently overpriced'
- −Buttons register only when pressed in the centre (Bayev's Kitchen)
- −Stainless steel shows fingerprints and watermarks (Tom's Guide)
How it compares
The OXO shares an 11-pound capacity with the Amazon Basics scale and sits below the 22-pound Nicewell and the 8 kg (17 lb 9 oz) My Weigh KD-8000. Like the KD-8000 it has a removable platform for washing; it runs on four AAA batteries where the KD-8000 can also use a power adapter.
Price history
4 daily reads from amazon.com since Oct 29, 2026. Lowest $51.99 (Nov 8), highest $64.95 (Oct 29), latest $51.99 (Nov 8). We call whether it's a good price once there are 7 days of reads at one store.
