The My Weigh KD-8000 is a large 8 kg scale with a baker's percentage mode. Tom's Guide found it accurate with calibration weights from 2 g to 100 g and liked the 7-by-7-inch platform and removable display cover, but called the body chunky and the power lead awkward. Sizzle and Sear, writing after eight years of use, checked it with a 200 g calibration weight and reported it accurate. It ships without a bowl and takes up more counter space than slim scales.

Baker's percentage mode
The feature that separates the KD-8000 from the other scales here is percentage weighing. Tom's Guide weighed 200 g of flour, pressed the '%' button to set it as 100%, and then added water to 65% without doing the arithmetic. The reviewer said the function was 'one step too far' for her own baking but a real benefit for people running a cottage bakery at home.
Sizzle and Sear describes the same mode as a way to scale recipes up and down, and notes the scale holds up to 8,000 g and remembers the last unit used.
Accuracy and capacity
Tom's Guide ran calibrated weights across the centre and edges of the platform. A 1 g weight did not register, which the reviewer says is true of most kitchen scales she has tested; weights of 2, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 g all read correctly wherever they were placed. A 171 g stack read correctly in the centre and 1 g low at the edge. Readings were quick and steady, and the scale showed an error message once loaded past 8 kg.
Sizzle and Sear tested its unit with a 200 g calibration weight and reported that the scale 'lives up to its accuracy promises'.
Size, display and cover
Tom's Guide called the scale 'a little bit of a monster': a boxy base with the display set at an angle and a clear acrylic shield over the buttons. The display measures 3 by 1 inches and has an optional blue backlight. The reviewer disliked the shield, which has to be lifted or slid off before the touchpad can be used, but conceded it keeps flour and sticky fingers off the controls.
Sizzle and Sear took the opposite view of the same parts, counting the raised platform, the removable stainless platform and the hinged shield among the scale's best features.
Power and durability
The scale runs on three AA batteries or the included power adapter. Tom's Guide used the adapter and found the lead cumbersome because it restricts where the scale can be placed. Auto-off is adjustable; on the default setting it switched off after 1 minute 50 seconds in that test.
Sizzle and Sear's reviewer reports using the scale for eight years and says it 'functions the same as the day I bought it'.
Strengths
- +Accurate with 2 g to 100 g calibration weights anywhere on the platform (Tom's Guide)
- +Baker's percentage mode sets flour as 100% and shows other ingredients as a percentage of it (Tom's Guide, Sizzle and Sear)
- +7 x 7 in platform lifts off for washing (Tom's Guide)
- +Runs on three AA batteries or the included power adapter (Tom's Guide)
- +Hinged cover keeps flour and spills off the display and buttons (Tom's Guide, Sizzle and Sear)
Watch-outs
- −Did not register a 1 g calibration weight in Tom's Guide's test
- −Power lead gets in the way and limits where the scale can sit (Tom's Guide)
- −Display cover has to be lifted or removed to reach the buttons (Tom's Guide)
How it compares
The KD-8000's 8 kg (17 lb 9 oz) capacity is above the 11-pound Amazon Basics and OXO Good Grips scales and below the 22-pound Nicewell. It is the only scale on this page with a baker's percentage mode and the option of mains power; the OXO answers the blocked-display problem with a pull-out screen instead of the KD-8000's angled one.
