The InSinkErator Evolution 1HP Advanced Series is a 1 HP continuous-feed disposal with a Dura-Drive motor running at 1,725 RPM, a 28.5-ounce capacity and a four-stage stainless steel grind. The Spruce names it the best garbage disposal overall, and its tester, who used it multiple times a day for more than a year, reported no jams or clogs and said it is so quiet it blends into the sound of running water. The Spruce also notes that it ships without a power cord, that its insulation makes it wider than some competitors, and that the rubber guard needs constant cleaning. It suits larger households that put a lot of food waste down the sink; buyers with cramped cabinets or narrow doors under the sink should measure first.

No jams in more than a year of daily grinding
The Spruce's tester, Tiffany, used the Evolution 1HP Advanced Series every day, often several times a day, for more than a year, and reported that it pulverised waste and cleared the line quickly, with no jams or clogs since installation. The Spruce says its 1 HP Dura-Drive motor can handle just about any food waste, including bones, and that the four-stage grind helps break scraps down, lower the chance of clogs and reduce odours. It found the unit chews through a lot of food waste fast, which is why it recommends it for larger families. More powerful disposals exist, such as The Spruce's 1.25 HP pick, but it judged this one to strike the best balance of power, performance and price in the series.
Quiet enough to disappear under the tap
Noise is where The Spruce's tester was most impressed: once the water is running, she said, the disposal basically blends into the background. The unit has extensive insulation, and The Spruce's buying advice notes that insulation and installation quality affect perceived noise more than horsepower. Her one complaint after a year of use was the rubber splash guard, which needs constant attention to clear trapped food scraps. The Spruce also points out that the unit is compact in height and does not hang far below the sink, leaving room for storage underneath.
Wide body and no cord in the box
The trade-off for the quiet running is width. The Spruce says the insulation makes it wider than some competitors, so it can be difficult to fit in cabinets with narrow doors or posts under the sink; its most compact pick is slightly taller but narrower. The disposal is also designed to be wired directly to power and does not include a cord, so households with an outlet under the sink need to buy one. The Spruce's tester installed it herself with the separately purchased EZ Connect plug-in accessory and found that lining up the existing PVC pipes was the hardest part of the job.
Strengths
- +Very quiet: The Spruce's tester said it blends into the background once the water runs
- +No jams or clogs after more than a year of daily use in The Spruce's tester's kitchen
- +Four-stage grind with stainless steel components handles bones and other tough scraps
- +The Spruce found it chews through large amounts of food waste quickly, suiting bigger households
- +Compact height means it does not hang far below the sink, leaving storage room
Watch-outs
- −No power cord in the box, so a cord must be bought unless it is hardwired
- −Extensive insulation makes it wider, which can complicate narrow cabinets or posts under the sink
- −The rubber guard needs constant cleaning to remove food scraps
How it compares
The Evolution 1HP Advanced Series matches the 1 HP rating of the InSinkErator Evolution Excel 1.0 HP and has twice the horsepower of the InSinkErator Badger 5 1/2 HP. Unlike the InSinkErator Evolution Cover Control Plus 3/4 HP Batch Feed, it is a continuous-feed unit, so scraps can be added while it runs.
