Dramm 9-Pattern Turret Sprinkler

3.5

1 sourceall derived$30.17as of Oct 25

The Dramm 9-Pattern Turret Sprinkler features a metal base and nine distinct spray shapes, including square, rectangle, half circle, and narrow strip configurations. TheBioase found the solid brass hose connector difficult to grip and attach due to its smooth surface, while noting that changing patterns without an on/off switch requires turning off the spigot or getting wet. Although the powder-coated finish offers durability in six colors, users must position the unit carefully to avoid dry spots near the base caused by extended reach in certain modes. This sprinkler fits gardeners who prioritize durable construction and varied coverage shapes over convenient operation.

Strengths

— Features a metal base and plastic turret with nine distinct spray patterns including square, rectangle, half circle, and narrow strip.
— Includes a brass hose connector equipped with an internal washer and sieve to filter out dirt and debris.
— Lightweight yet sturdy construction available in multiple color options.

Watch-outs

— Lacks an on/off switch requiring users to turn off the spigot or get wet when changing patterns.
— Solid metal hose connector is difficult to grip and attach to a garden hose.

Orbit Traveling Tractor Water Sprinkler

4.5

1 sourceall derived$84.94as of Oct 25

The Orbit Traveling Tractor Water Sprinkler features a durable 18.8-pound cast iron body that Reviewed found anchors the unit effectively against minor lawn obstacles while navigating gradual hose bends. Its hydraulic transmission converts water pressure into movement, with Home.howstuffworks.com explaining how internal gears drive the wheels at speeds up to 37 feet per hour on the highest setting. The device automatically shuts off when the front wheel engages a stopper ramp, depressing a plunger to cut water flow and halt motion without manual intervention. However, Reviewed noted that this movement is remarkably slow even on fast settings, making it inefficient for large areas, while its forceful spray pattern is unsuitable for watering new seed. This sprinkler fits homeowners with established lawns who prioritize deep hydration and durability over speed, but those needing to germinate new grass or cover vast spaces quickly should look elsewhere.

Strengths

— Simple set up that takes less than five minutes to lay out the hose and connect the unit
— Automatic shut off mechanism stops water flow when the sprinkler reaches the end ramp
— Durable construction featuring a heavy cast iron body for longevity

Watch-outs

— Sprays up to 50 feet, which is insufficient for watering new seed or large areas
— Movement speed is remarkably slow even on its highest setting

How they stack up

Dramm 9-Pattern Turret Sprinkler

It lacks the directional rotation capabilities found in the Melnor model and requires manual spigot adjustment to change patterns, unlike the Aiper IrriSense 2's automated system.

Orbit Traveling Tractor Water Sprinkler

This self-propelled unit moves automatically along a hose track, eliminating the need for manual repositioning required by the stationary Dramm and Melnor sprinklers. Its heavy cast iron body anchors effectively against obstacles, whereas the lightweight plastic sled base of the Melnor MiniMax Turbo is prone to shifting under pressure.
