Ranked #4 in Best Humidifiers for Large Rooms

AIRCARE MA1201 Whole-House Console Evaporative Humidifier

4.1

1 sourceall derived$149.99as of Oct 11

The AIRCARE MA1201 is the whole-house workhorse of this roundup. Its console design pushes out roughly 11.4 gallons of moisture a day to cover up to 3,600 sq ft, the most coverage here, from a 3.6-gallon easy-fill tank that runs up to 36 hours. A digital humidistat auto-adjusts the fan to hold your set level. Being evaporative, it takes tap water and leaves no white dust. There is no app, and it gets louder on high, but for sheer reach nothing matches it.

Strengths

— 3.6-gallon easy-fill tank runs up to 36 continuous hours, according to Humidifier Only
— Evaporative design uses tap water with no white dust
— Long-standing, widely recommended console design (a frequent consumer-magazine #1)

Watch-outs

— Wick filters wear out fairly quickly and are an ongoing cost; Humidifier Only flags frequent replacements
— Noticeably louder on higher fan speeds, per Humidifier Only

Dreo HM713S 6L Smart Humidifier

4.6

1 source$89.99as of Oct 11

The Dreo HM713S is a 6-liter ultrasonic humidifier with warm and cool mist, a built-in humidistat and app control. Live Science rated it 4.5 out of 5 stars after it lifted a closed room from 59% to 83% relative humidity in two hours, and Bob Vila picked it as the best smart model in its large-room roundup, where it raised humidity by more than 30 percent in 8 hours on high. Bob Vila rates its coverage at up to 550 sq ft, and Live Science found cleaning a hassle and the humidistat 2 to 4% low.

Strengths

— Live Science measured a closed room rising from 59% to 72% relative humidity in one hour and 83% in two on the highest cool-mist setting
— Bob Vila verified the claimed 60-hour runtime on low in its testing
— Warm and cool mist at three output levels, with a humidistat-driven auto mode

Watch-outs

— Bob Vila lists coverage of only up to 550 sq ft, far short of the console units on this page
— Live Science found the mist tube and noise silencer a hassle to clean
— Built-in humidistat read 2 to 4% low in Live Science's test

How they stack up

AIRCARE MA1201 Whole-House Console Evaporative Humidifier

The highest-output unit here, covering more square footage than even the Levoit Superior 6000S, but without that unit's Wi-Fi app or as-quiet operation. It dwarfs the ultrasonic Levoit LV600S and Dreo HM713S on reach.

Dreo HM713S 6L Smart Humidifier

Like the Levoit LV600S, the Dreo HM713S is a 6-liter ultrasonic unit with warm and cool mist and app control. Bob Vila rates its coverage at up to 550 sq ft, below the LV600S's 753 sq ft and far below the 3,000 and 3,600 sq ft of the evaporative Levoit Superior 6000S and Aircare MA1201 consoles.
