The verdict

The Wahl Color Pro Cordless Hair Clipper offers a lightweight, convenient solution for home haircuts with its lithium-ion battery and quick-charge capability. Reviewers noted its ease of use and self-sharpening blades, though some criticized the build quality as flimsy. While it's suitable for beginners and provides good mobility, the included trimmer is considered underwhelming. The clipper's battery life is praised, with a 2-hour charge providing extended use, though it may not match the power of corded models.

Twelve colour-coded guards from 1/16 to 1 inch

Twelve SNAP-N-LOCK guards cover 1/16 of an inch up to a full inch, and colour-coding them is the single reason this clipper suits beginners: there is no squinting at moulded numbers on black plastic in a steamy bathroom mirror. The guards click on positively and stay put through a pass, which is the usual failure mode of cheap comb sets and the thing that turns a haircut into a repair job.

Two hours cordless, four hours back on the charger

The lithium-ion pack runs about two hours cordless and takes roughly four hours to fill, and a short top-up is enough for one emergency haircut. An indicator light flashes red when the charge is low, holds red while charging and turns blue when full, so there is no guessing before starting. Worldwide voltage support from 100 to 240 volts makes it a reasonable clipper to travel with.

Self-sharpening steel blades that still need oiling

The blades are stainless steel and self-sharpening, which means they stay usable longer than a plain steel set rather than never needing attention. Hair left sitting on the blade is acidic and dulls the edge quickly, and a dull blade drags the motor and shortens run time, so the brush and oil in the box are not optional extras. The blade is not a removable cartridge either, so replacing it is a service part rather than a swap.

A plastic body that feels its price

The housing is hard plastic and reads as light rather than solid; several reviewers call it flimsy next to metal-bodied clippers, though it has survived drop testing without cracking. At under 0.9 pounds that lightness is also why it does not tire the hand through a full head. The trimmer bundled alongside it is the weakest thing in the box and is worth treating as packaging rather than a tool.

The taper lever blends, but it will not do skin fades

An adjustable taper lever on the side feathers the cut length between guard steps, which is what makes blending possible at all on a home clipper. It will not produce a skin-tight fade — that needs a dedicated balding blade and a foil shaver — and thick, coarse hair makes the motor work audibly harder. As a maintenance clipper for home haircuts and touch-ups it does the job; as a professional tool it does not.

Strengths

  • +Lightweight design, weighing less than 0.9 lbs
  • +Quick charge feature allows for emergency haircuts with just 10-minute charge
  • +Durable lithium-ion battery with long runtime, charging in about 4 hours
  • +Self-sharpening stainless steel blades that are rust-resistant and good for thick hair

Watch-outs

  • Somewhat flimsy build quality due to hard plastic body
  • Trimmer included is described as lackluster

How it compares

The Wahl Color Pro stands out for its quick-charge feature and lightweight design, making it ideal for emergency haircuts, but it falls short compared to the Wahl Elite Pro in terms of power and the JRL Onyx in terms of advanced Smart-Clip technology. Unlike the Andis ReVite, it lacks a removable blade system, and its plastic build quality is less durable than the BaByliss Pro Silver FX+.
