The Spruce named this their best overall pick for DIY work, and the reasoning is about friction rather than precision: it sets itself level within seconds of being placed on a flat surface, and it projects both a horizontal and a vertical line at once, so hanging a frame or lining up a shelf stops being a two-person job with a spirit level.
Green rather than red is the other reason it works indoors. A green beam reads more clearly against a wall in ordinary room lighting than a red one does, which is the difference between squinting for the line and simply seeing it.
Two buttons, a magnetic bracket and no calibration
The interface is deliberately minimal: power and mode, nothing else, and no calibration routine to run before use. The unit is small enough to live in a tool bag and light enough to carry between jobs without thinking about it.
