The cheapest credible outdoor camera
The Blink answers one question: what is the least you can spend on an outdoor camera that still works? TechRadar's answer was 4/5 and 'affordable, beginner-friendly home security that gets the job done.' Setup is genuinely quick, and because this is an Amazon product the Alexa integration is tight enough that a voice command pulls the feed onto an Echo Show.
Two AA cells, and years between changes
Endurance is the Blink's signature. Two AA lithium cells are rated for up to two years, and a battery extender stretches that further — nothing else here runs that long without a cable or a charging schedule. Expert Reviews adds the qualifier: the cells 'are not rechargeable' and have to be bought and swapped, so the long life carries a small recurring cost rather than a free top-up over USB or solar.
Where the 57/100 comes from
TechGearLab is the outlier here and the reason to read past the star ratings. It scored the camera 57 out of 100 and was blunt about why: 'there are cameras with clearer image quality in this price range that better capture crucial details,' and the footage 'isn't nearly as legible' as that of rivals, including cheaper ones. Expert Reviews reached the same conclusion more gently, finding that 'image sharpness is not as impressive as with other security cameras' and confirming that resolution 'defaults to 720P and maximum is 1080P.'
Motion detection, at least, is dependable, according to TechRadar. Whether the clip lets you say who it was is a different question, and at this resolution the answer is often no.
The $3 plan is doing a lot of work

What the Blink wins is price and battery life, and it wins both decisively. What it gives up is resolution, free smart features and any real ability to identify a face at distance. That makes it a sensible second or third camera — a shed, a back corner, a side gate — or a first camera for someone still deciding whether they want cameras at all. For the entrance you actually care about, stepping up to a 4K pick is the better call.
