Petcube Fountain

The Petcube Fountain is a battery-powered, motion-activated fountain with a 1.7-liter tank and an app that tracks filter life and cleaning. CNET's Tyler Lacoma picked it as the best overall cat water fountain, calling it one of the best-designed pet fountains he has seen and especially quiet, with dishwasher-safe main parts. He also found the motion sensor inaccurate, and noted that the 30-day filters are sold in three-packs and that the fountain is too small for large pets.

Strengths
  • — CNET found it especially quiet compared with other fountains
  • — Rechargeable battery and motion sensor let it sit away from an outlet
  • — Main components are dishwasher-safe, per CNET
Watch-outs
  • — CNET found the motion sensor usually triggered only on close inspection, not on approach
  • — Filters need replacing about every 30 days and are sold in packs of three
  • — About 6 cups of capacity is too small for larger pets, per CNET
Petkit Eversweet Ultra

Petkit Eversweet Ultra
1 source$249.99as of Oct 10

The Petkit Eversweet Ultra is a large fountain with a 5-liter fresh tank, a separate 1.8-liter waste tank and a built-in AI pet camera. CNET's Tyler Lacoma scored it 8.5/10, finding it silent in continuous mode and praising the non-recirculating design, water heating and the features available without a subscription. He called it expensive at about $250, large, and slow to learn because of the number of app controls.

Strengths
  • — CNET found it silent in continuous mode over days of testing
  • — Water is not recirculated; it moves from a 5-liter fresh tank to a waste tank
  • — AI camera recognised the reviewer's cat and supports up to 15 pet profiles
Watch-outs
  • — Expensive at about $250
  • — Takes up more space than most pet fountains, per CNET
  • — The many app controls take time to learn

How they stack up

Petcube Fountain

The Petcube Fountain runs on a rechargeable battery, while the PetSafe Drinkwell Platinum and PetSafe Multi-Tier need an outlet. Its 1.7-liter (57 oz) tank is the smallest on this page, well under the Platinum's 168 oz and the Petlibro Capsule Dog Fountain's 2.1 gallons, and CNET says it is not suitable for larger pets. It has app reminders but none of the camera, heating or auto-refill features of the Petkit Eversweet Ultra, which costs far more.

Petkit Eversweet Ultra

The Eversweet Ultra is the only fountain on this page with a camera, and CNET describes it as cycling water between two tanks instead of recirculating it as a pumped fountain does. Its 5-liter tank roughly matches the 168 oz PetSafe Drinkwell Platinum and is smaller than the 2.1-gallon Petlibro Capsule Dog Fountain. At $249.99 it costs several times as much as the Petcube Fountain, the other app-connected model here, and unlike the Petcube it has to be plugged in.
