Three separate hands-on tests picked this rug and all three sent it to a covered space. Good Housekeeping named it their best round option and praised how the multi-coloured braid conceals dirt; The Spruce named it best braided and rated it for abrasion resistance; Bob Vila made it their best pick for covered porches specifically because of what happened when they left it in the rain. It absorbed the storm, took three days to dry, and the concrete underneath had gone mildewy a week later. Put it under a roof and it is a durable, good-looking, easy-to-vacuum braid at 0.3 inches thick. Put it in the open and it will hold water.

Strengths
  • Good Housekeeping found the multi-toned braid hides dirt and debris better than anything else in their group
  • The Spruce rates it highly for abrasion resistance against furniture legs and plant pots
  • Bob Vila scored appearance a straight 5/5 and called the synthetic braid elegant and natural-looking
Watch-outs
  • Bob Vila's sample took three days to dry after a thunderstorm and left the concrete beneath it mildewy
  • The Spruce found it still felt wet the day after a rainstorm and recommend a covered patio or a dry climate
  • Arrives folded and needs several days to relax flat
Quince Sloane Indoor/Outdoor Rug (8' x 10', Natural)
Ranked #6 in Best Outdoor Rugs
Quince Sloane Indoor/Outdoor Rug (8' x 10', Natural)
1 sourceall derived$499.9

The Sloane is the rug for a three-season porch rather than an open patio, and The Spruce is explicit about why. Hand-loomed from PET recycled from water bottles, it is nearly as soft as the Pottery Barn Kian but much thinner, and their testers concluded it belongs somewhere semi-protected. Over six months on a screened porch it took wind-blown rain and tracked-in grit without the edges curling or wrinkling. The weaknesses are the flip side of the softness: it stretches and bunches when furniture is dragged over it, it absorbs water, and debris settles into the pile if you let it. Quince sells it in six neutral colourways and five sizes.

Strengths
  • The Spruce ranks it second only to the Kian for softness among every outdoor rug in their test group
  • Six months on a screened porch left the edges uncurled and unwrinkled
  • Stood up to wind-swept rain and tracked-in debris without visible damage
Watch-outs
  • Thin and stretchy enough that furniture movement bunches it; The Spruce expects you to keep readjusting
  • Soaks up a noticeable amount of water, which is why they kept it under cover
  • Debris works into the soft fibres and has to be cleaned out before it embeds

How they stack up

nuLOOM Wynn Braided Indoor/Outdoor Area Rug (5' x 8', Salt and Pepper)
