The Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar is the default doorway pull-up bar, with more than a decade as the best-selling option in North America and a 4.5-star average across 60,000-plus reviews. Its no-screw leverage design hooks over the trim, it offers three grip positions, holds up to 300 pounds, and detaches in seconds to double as a floor bar for push-ups and dips. Reviewers found it rock-solid for users under six feet, with door-frame marks and limited grip variety as the main caveats.

Strengths

  • — No-screw leverage mount installs and removes in seconds
  • — Three grip positions: narrow, wide, and neutral
Watch-outs
  • — Can leave marks on the door frame over time
  • — Limited grip variety versus multi-grip bars
  • — Does not allow swinging or kipping movements

The Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Elite is an over-the-door pull-up bar rated to 300 lb, with padded neutral, wide and chin-up grips and rubber door bumpers; it also flips to the floor for push-ups, dips and sit-ups. GamerBody, after 30 days, called it the most stable doorway bar it had used and found the bumpers left no marks on the frame, and Chris Pinedo of Lean With Style likewise found it sturdy for pull-ups and kind to the door. Both found it weaker as a floor station: Pinedo said dips have very little range of motion, and GamerBody uses it only for pull-ups. It suits people who mainly want steady pull-ups on a door they care about; anyone wanting a real dip station should look elsewhere.

Strengths
  • — GamerBody called it the most stable doorway bar it has used, even at 185 lb
  • — Door bumpers left no marks or dents in either reviewer's door frame
  • — Standard grips sit nine inches out from the wall, so hands clear the frame
Watch-outs
  • — Dips on the floor have very little range of motion
  • — At about 8 lb it is bulky to put up and take down often
  • — Sit-up mode slipped on a hardwood floor in Chris Pinedo's test

How they stack up

Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar

The proven default with three grip positions, less grip variety than the eight-grip ProsourceFit Multi-Grip but more trusted by sheer volume. Its weight rating is lower than the Ally Peaks and the Pullup & Dip, but its leverage mount and floor-bar versatility keep it the everyman pick.

Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Doorway Pull Up Bar Elite

Like the Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar and the Pullup & Dip Doorway Pull-Up Bar, it hangs over the door without drilling and also works on the floor, but both of its reviewers rated its dips as weak. Its door-width range of 29 to 39 inches and padded neutral, wide and chin-up grips make it an alternative to the ProsourceFit Multi-Grip Pull-Up Bar for buyers who care more about stability and door protection than grip count.
