The short answer

Vornado Transom Window Fan is the only one of the two with a published score (3.7); Comfort Zone CZ319WT 9-inch Twin Window Fan has none, so this is not a close call so much as an unmeasured one. Vornado Transom Window Fan is best for: bedrooms and living rooms where low noise and a tidy, low-profile fit matter more than maximum airflow. Read the strengths below before deciding.

Ranked #5 in Best Window Fans
Comfort Zone CZ319WT 9-inch Twin Window Fan
Unrated2 sources$38.67as of Oct 17

The Comfort Zone CZ319WT is the no-frills value pick: a 9-inch twin reversible fan that does the basics well and adds absolutely nothing extra. For a single-window cooling job with no need for a thermostat, scheduling, or remote, it's a smart choice. At full retail price, though, it isn't the bargain it looks like.

Strengths
  • — Twin 9-inch blades match the Genesis on size while listing well under $40
  • — Removable fabric cover and snap-off front grille make the fan straightforward to keep clean
  • — Hassle-free installation is the most frequently cited pro in owner reviews
Watch-outs
  • — Some owners report a frequent squeak or rattle from the blades after a season of use

The Vornado Transom swaps the usual twin blades for one long fan in a low, 8-inch-tall case that fits windows 26 to 40 inches wide. Wirecutter calls it the best window fan it has tested, measuring about 10 to 11 mph of air speed at about half the power draw of other models; TechGearLab found it the quietest fan in its test but measured relatively poor air movement in CFM. Both outlets note it is hard to clean.

Strengths
  • — Quietest fan in TechGearLab's noise test at 48.4 dBA; Wirecutter measured about 49 decibels on high
  • — Low-profile case fits windows up to 40 inches wide, with foam pads to improve the seal, per Wirecutter
  • — Remote control, and the fan closes when off to stop air exchange, per TechGearLab
Watch-outs
  • — TechGearLab's CFM readings showed relatively poor air movement

How they stack up

Comfort Zone CZ319WT 9-inch Twin Window Fan

The Comfort Zone CZ319WT has the same 9-inch blades as the Genesis A1WINDOWFAN but no thermostat, which the Genesis, the Bionaire BWF0910AR and the Holmes HAWF2043 all have. Its listed airflow of 431 CFM is below the Genesis at 668.5 CFM, the Bionaire at 754.5 CFM and the Holmes at 592.1 CFM. It costs less than the Bionaire and the Holmes.

Vornado Transom Window Fan

It uses a single long fan instead of the twin blades of the Bionaire BWF0910AR, Genesis A1WINDOWFAN, Comfort Zone CZ319WT and Holmes HAWF2043. Wirecutter measured nearly twice the air speed of the Genesis and Holmes fans it tested, while TechGearLab's CFM readings put its air movement below the other window fans it tested.
